The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) provisional candidate Tomasi Vakatora has withdrawn from the party because of health issues.

This, according to party leader Viliame Gavoka.

While addressing the media at a news conference last week, Mr Gavoka said they had a replacement in place of Mr Vakatora. “Lasarusa Turaga who is part of Suva replaces Mr Tomasi Vakatora,” he said.

“Mr Turaga is a veteran of the Forestry and Fisheries Department with 29 years of experience and an asset to SODELPA in the Suva area from the Cunningham suburb. We have 51 confirmed candidates and hopefully in the next few weeks will complete the fifty-five candidates.”

In an earlier interview with this newspaper, Mr Vakatora claimed the lack of accountability and transparency in the Unity Fiji party was the reason he joined SODELPA to contest the 2022 General Election.

Meanwhile, Mr Gavoka said their partnership with Unity Fiji was working well.

“There is no other partnership that the people of Fiji should look to govern this country. SODELPA and Unity Fiji partnership is one of the strongest and people have the confidence that these two parties combined or own their own can run Fiji.”
