‘Dead corpse’ atmosphere

The atmosphere during elections and campaigning these days is like a “dead corpse”, said Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry.

Mr Chaudhry made the comments while speaking at a party meeting in Qalitu, Lautoka on Wednesday night.

“We used to have robust election campaigns before, but how about now,” he said.

“It seems like it’s all dead because so many laws have been made that you can’t do this and you can’t do that.

“The party flags, symbols, the sheds on polling day, are all gone.

“If you compare the elections back then and now, elections these days is a corpse, dead.

“We must change all that and we must bring back the old ways of fighting the elections, campaigning in the elections and having the freedom to say whatever we want, of course within the law.”
